PBT Product Introduction

PBT COMPOUNDS

Information

1. Basic Information PBT, short for Polybutylene terephthalate, is a thermoplastic polyester resin. It is made by the polycondensation of terephthalic acid (or its ester) and 1,4 - butanediol. With the chemical formula (C₁₂H₁₄O₄)ₙ, PBT has a linear structure with regular ester groups (-COO -) in the main chain, giving it polarity and chemical reactivity. 2. Performance Characteristics 2.1 Mechanical Properties PBT stands out with great mechanical strength. Its tensile strength ranges from 50 - 70 MPa, and high modulus makes it perfect for high - strength applications. It resists fatigue well, enduring repeated stress without much degradation, suitable for long - term used mechanical parts. The impact strength is also high at normal temperatures, ensuring product durability. 2.2 Thermal Properties PBT shows good heat resistance. The heat - distortion temperature under a specific load is about 60 - 120°C, and with glass fiber filling, it can reach over 200°C. Its melting point is around 225 - 235°C, relatively high among common thermoplastics, allowing it to maintain shape and performance in high - temperature settings and facilitating processing. 2.3 Chemical Resistance PBT is highly resistant to various chemicals. It can withstand alcohols, ketones, esters, and many common acids and alkalis, making it suitable for chemical - related products like storage containers and pipelines. But in strong oxidizing acids like concentrated sulfuric and nitric acids, its stability may be compromised. 2.4 Electrical Properties PBT offers excellent electrical insulation. Its volume resistivity reaches 10¹⁵ - 10¹⁷Ω·cm, and the dielectric constant is stable at around 3 - 4 across a wide frequency range. These properties make it a top choice for electrical components like insulators, connectors, and switches.
