Information

The HME filters are indicated for use with patients whose upper airways are being bypassed by an artificial tracheal airway or receiving artificial ventilator support. The main construction of the HME filter is hme paper or sponge, which collects and utilizes heat and moisture in the exhaled breath to warm and humidify the inhaled gas , maintaining a constant temperature and humidity in the respiratory tract. Usually it is also matched with electrostatic cotton to filter bacteria/viruses. The bacterial filters protect the patient’s airways effectively from exogenous microbial loads, thus reducing the risk of infection. Used to help reduce cross contamination between patient and machine. The luer port connector is used for monitoring respiratory or add anaesthesia gases. Pulmonary function tests are noninvasive tests that show the lungs healthy condition. The tests measure lung volume, capacity, rates of flow, and gas exchange. Patients performing pulmonary function tests generate flows. During these forced expirations, infective droplets are expelled and therefore the potential risk of cross-infection may be comparatively high. Immuno-compromised patients are potentially at greater risk of acquiring a variety of infections. With a combination of low resistance and high bacterial and viral efficiency, the spirometry filter do not onlyprevent contamination of the equipment by potential pathogen transmission via the patient’s exhaled air but alsoprevent patient cross contamination. Furthermore it protects the staff from coming in direct contact with the exhaled air during the breathing manoeuvres.
